what-is-osteopathy

What is osteopathy ?

Osteopathy, founded by Dr Andrew Taylor Still, is a holistic approach to assessing and treating the musculoskeletal system. Its aim is to reduce pain, improve mobility and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

Cranial Osteopathy

Health is more than the absence of pain. It reflects balance and resilience across the body and mind.

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, refined osteopathic approach that uses light, precise pressure to support the release of tension throughout the body.

Practitioners are trained to detect subtle, rhythmical movements  within the body tissues, called involuntary motion. this patterns help guide treatment and support the body’s capacity to restore optimal function.

Structural Osteopathy

Structural Osteopathy focuses on joints, muscles and soft tissues that are restricted or not functioning efficiently.

Visceral Osteopathy

Manual approach focusing on the mobility and tension of the body’s internal organs and the connective tissues around them.

All approaches aim to address the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction.

your initial appointment includes:

  • A detailed a medical history
  • Discussion of  current symptoms, past injuries and overall health.
  • A physical assessment to support an accurate diagnoses.

After this your practitioner will work out a personalised management plan. Treatment is provided with the patient fully clothed unless specific tests require otherwise.

ACC

If your injury is the result of  an accident, you may be eligible for ACC subsidised treatment. ACC may contribute to part of your treatment costs.

If you already have an ACC claim number, please bring it with you.

As an accredited ACC provider, your osteopath can lodge a claim on your behalf if needed.
